It's been an exciting month at the Indie Mixtape HQ as we had the opportunity to catch up with rapper and producer 169. As a producer he has worked with the best in UK rap including Dave, Craig David & Stormzy.
His debut EP 'Seasons' was released earlier this year to critical acclaim, below he talks influences and new music!
How would you describe your music for new fans in three words?
Produced By Me
Who are your influences?
Drake, Wonda Gurl, James Blake, Gunna
How do you go about making new music?
I hardly start anything until I feel some sort of way. I have to have something to write about, and from there everything just comes together.
I usually start with some melodies that I put down in my voice recorder, then I get to the beat and start writing at the same time.
What is your favourite venue that you’ve performed at?
Definitely 02 institute, I opened for my bro dave which was a blessing; crowd loved it.
Do you have a favourite playlist to listen to new music?
For sure has to be Rap Caviar on Spotify!
What can fans expect from your new music?
I’m pushing the envelope, letting people know I can do everything, the dance choons, the hip hop songs, the ballads, everything, I’m a musician.
You’re a producer too, who have you most enjoyed working with?
In all honesty it has to be Craig David! His work rate is crazy, his energy is right for the studio, and his vocals are always flawless, top class still.
If you could work with anyone (dead or alive) who would you like to work with?
I’d still love to work with Drake, on a 1 to 1 level, just try and create something hard.
